STATEMENT OF FAITH

Winter Street Free Baptist Church, in accordance with historic Baptist tradition, observes the ordinances of Believers Baptism by Immersion and the Lord's Supper.   As a priesthood of Believers, we are "congregational" in government.  Doctrinally, we affirm the following distinctives:

1. THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE

The Bible is the inspired, authoritative and infallible Word of God and is our sole rule of faith and practice. It is the standard by which all human conduct and creeds should be tried. (Ps. 119:6-9; 97-105; Rom. 14:4; 2Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20- 21)

2. THE TRINITY

There is only one true and living God Who is manifested in three eternal, coequal, and distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  God possesses holiness, omnipotence, omniscience, love, mercy, and all other perfections. All humankind owes to Him supreme faith and obedience.

(Gen. 1:26; Dr. 6:4; Mt. 3:16-17; 1 Pet. 1:2)

3. THE PERSON AND WORK Of CHRIST

Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life in His humanity. He died a substitutionary death, sufficient for all mankind, was bodily resurrected ascended to Heaven/ and will personally come again.

{John 1:14; Mt. 1:20-25; Phil. 2:6-11; Heb. 2:14-17; Heb. 4:15; Rom. 3:22-26; john 3:16; Rom. 5:8-11; Acts 1:9-11; Zech. 14:4}

4. HUMANKIND

Humankind has been created in the image of God, but through Adam's fall is now sinful, lost and condemned.   By deliberate choice all participate in sin, which is open rebellion to God's law. Notwithstanding the fall, all human life, both inside and outside the womb, through creation has value and dignity. (Gen. 1: 26-27; Rom. 1: 18-32; Rom. 5: 12-20; Ps. 139:13-16)

5. JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH

Human beings can be forgiven of sin and justified solely by grace, through faith in the redeeming work of our Lord Jesus Christ. Only by repentance from sin and faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and lord can acceptance with God be attained.

(Gen. 15:6; Hob. 2:4; Rom.3:21-31; Jn. 3:16; In. 6:29; Jn. 14:6; Eph. 2:8; Heb. 11)

6. REGENERATION

Regeneration is the work of the Holy Spirit by which the believer receives a new nature from God. Christian growth or sanctification is the continuation of the new life principle which begins in the new birth.   (Jn. 3:3-5; Jn. 14:26; Rom. 8:9-16; Ti. 3:5-7; 1 Pet. 1:22-23)

7. THE CHURCH

The Church in its widest sense includes all 'born again" believers of all ages.  The Church is manifested visibly in the local body of self-governing, baptized believers who covenant together to worship, observe the ordinances, and evangelize the lost.

(Gen. 22:18; Mt. 28:16-20; Acts 1-2; Rom 2; 1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4:1-6; Jn. 17:20-26)

8. HUMAN DESTINY

We eagerly await the imminent and visible return of our lord Jesus Christ, at which time He will raise the dead and judge all people. Believers will enjoy an eternal state of blessedness in heaven while unbelievers will experience eternal separation from God in Hell, a literal place prepared for Satan and his followers. (Dan. 12: 2; Mat. 25:31-36; In. 5:28-29; 1 Cor. 15: 50-57; Phil. 3: 20-21; Rev. 20:7-15)

9. EVANGELISM AND SOCIAL CONCERNS

The Church has been called to preach the gospel so that individual people can receive salvation.  Also the Church is to become involved in the improvement of society by advancing Biblical principles which militate against poverty, racism, violence, and all forms of injustice against mankind.  We should work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, and the sick.  We should speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death.

(Ex. 20:3-17; Mic. 6:8; Zech. 7:8-10; Mt. 5:43-48; Mt. 9:9- 13; Mt. 25: 31-46; Mt 28: 16-20; Col. 3:12-17)

10. HUMAN SEXUALITY

God's design is that man and woman either be joined together in a perpetual monogamous relationship of marriage, or if unmarried, live in a sexually pure state. Extramarital sex, adultery, and homosexuality are inconsistent with the Scriptural teaching of the Holy Bible. (Gen2:18-2S; Ex. 20:14; Lev. 18; Mt. 5:27-30; Rom. 1:18-32; 1 Cor. 6:9-202; Eph. 5:3; 1 Th. 4:3-8; 1 Pet. 1:13-16; Rev. 21:6-8)
